Algeria, Cederburg. Large site in superlative setting. Good facilities. Few other campers mid week in April
Boontjierivier, Citrusdal. Small site situated in beautiful setting by river and citrus grove. Good facilities. Must make reservation in advance.
Mount Ceder, Cederburg. Another camp site in great setting. Excellent facilities

Zambia Campsites
Kings Highway c60km N of Isoka. Great welcome from friendly people. Fresh veg from the gardens. A very good stop after hassle of border crossing.
Kapisha Hot Springs. A beautiful place to spend a few days, overlooking the river. Wallowing in springs with steam rising is a different place for an early morning soak. Visit to Shiwa Ngandu worthwhile.
Forest inn, Fringilla farm and Eureka all make convenient stop off points next to Great North Road, with good facilities.
Mutinondo Wilderness. Fantastic location for campsite with excellent facilities. Views of the hills, walks in the forest, swimming in the river make this an excellent place to stay with good birding and good food at the lodge too.
Bruce Miller Farms. Another great place with a secluded camp by the river. Welcoming and departing cup of coffee. Good birding too. Note there is a new road from Choma, tar most of way to farm.
Waterfront hotel campsite at Livingstone. A real contrast after secluded camps, commercial. Good facilities

Tanzania camps
Serengeti Stop over. Conveniently located 1km outside west gate of Serengeti to allow entrance to park at optimum time.
Tumbili camp at Seronera, access and pitch not best for roof top tent. Kitchen noisy. Dik Dik camp much better.
Wild camp in Ngorongoro conservancy an awesome experience. Call at Rangers post near Nduru Safari lodge to organise. Simba A on edge of crater excellent at bottom of field. firewood very expensive.
Kudu lodge and campsite at Karatu good site to east of Ngorongoro.
Milimani Cottages, Usa River 20 km east of Arusha, superb self catering cottages for a break after Serengeti. 4WD needed to reach them up 3km steep road.
Marangu hotel, campsite in pleasant grounds but space for only one roof top tent, then up short 45 degree slope.

Camps Rwanda and Uganda
Rwanda
Seeds of Peace, Kayonza, overlooking Lake Muhazi. not suitable for roof top tents but Rondavels good value. lovely quiet spot
Red Rocks, near Musanze. The people at this inter cultural centre made us most welcome and for 2 days we felt part of the local community. beautiful views of mountains all around. We even learned how to cook local food.
Uganda
Lake Bunyonyi. Beautiful spot, good for meeting fellow travellers.
Simba Safari Camp, just north of Queen Elizabeth Park. good spot to avoid paying exorbitant park fees for foreign vehicles. They arranged game drive and boat trip along Kisingi channel.
Chimpanzee Forest Camp, Kibale forest.
Lovely spot, very helpful staff summoning up a local mechanic to sort car problems. Excellent morning bird walk
Nile Safari Lodge, Murchison falls
Excellent campsite just outside murchison Falls park, a few 100 metres from lodge. Magnificent views of the Nile. They arranged bot trip to bottom of falls, but view better from top.
Masindi hotel. Good stopover. they can arrange taxi to Budongo forest for chimpanzee tracking, but you need to book the trek direct.

A superb site overlooking Nile. Best showers so far. could sit here for sometime watching birds, river and rafters

Site set in the middle of a village, run by local community. Lovely green site and very warm welcome. Toilets not appreciated by all.

Excellent overnight stay with proper sirloin steak bought at site.

Hotel Seta campsite Inharroso Mozambique
Good campsite with wonderful views over Indian Ocean. Excellent toilet, showers. Boat trip to Paradise Island
Hotel Milpark Chimoio, excellent motel for stopover after long drive.
Tete, Park Inn hotel now open, very expensive but respite after negotiating Tete.
Bushmans Baobab, Liwonde. Malawi
God campsite in lovely surroundings. Great dinners provided. Canoe trip much recommended. Excellent bird watching.
Norman Carr cottages Monkey Bay Malawi
Perfect place to spend Christmas. lovely family atmosphere and Taffy and Jenny are wonderful hosts. Boat trips to see Fish Eagles and snorkelling and then for a sundowner made this almost enjoyable stay.
Cool Runnings Senga Bay Malawi
Good campsite where we met the first people travelling like us, only the other direction. Thanks George for help with the fridge repair and to Johann for his recommendations on campsites. Lovely catamaran sail to island.
Bua River Nkotokata Malawi
A wonderful green spot with good facilities. Great walk in morning, seeing baby crocodiles.
Chintheche Inn Malawi.
Fantastic early morning views of sunrise over Lake, then stunning colours at sunset. Warm welcome and helpful staff. Good facilities
Chelinda Camp Nyika Malawi
The cold and wet a great shock. Meal most welcome after long hard drive. Excellent game drive with Whyte and camp fire kept going by Lazarus meant stew was ready for us on our return. Great service. Views from campsite stunning when cloud lifted, almost like Yorkshire Dales with Zebras. Good facilities
Sangilo Sanctuary campsite Chitimba Malawi
Lovely secluded spot on lake Malawi. Cheated and spent 2 nights in a chalet for rest, but camping tonight. Canoeing on Lake Malawi another highlight as was pancakes for breakfast made by someone else. Good facilities.

Heins Farm Ermelo South Africa
An excellent stop over approx 3 hours from Johannesburg. Very helpful people, sorted out problems with awnings etc. Easy access from N11
Mlilwane NR Swaziland
A beautiful green location, helpful staff, good facilities in excellent campsite. Well signposted access along dirt road
Hlane NR Swaziland
Even though there is no electricity another excellent campsite with helpful staff and good facilities. Sitting on a bench overlooking the Hippo pool watching crocodile, hippo and rhino has been one of the highlights so far. Easy access off main road.
Jays Marracuene Mozambique
Superb location in dunes by the sea. Helpful people. Waiting to get on ferry took about 2 hours. 4x4 needed to negotiate sandy access road.Very sandy
Praia do Chidenguele Mozambique
Excellent campsite with shady pitches with own facilities, almost en suite. Superb views and service. Easy 4x4 access, well signposted.
Barra lighthouse near Inhambane Mozambique
Superb views over the ocean. Unfortunately no level pitches available so only stayed 1 day. Sandy. 4x4 access only, not well signposted.
Ponta Murrungulo Mozambique
Excellent campsite right on beautiful beach, with good facilities.Well signposted, 4x4 needed inside site to reach camping area.
