Welcome to our Africa blog

We hope all our families and friends will log in from time to time to see how we're getting on - and just to touch base. We all know we shall miss everyone and this is one of the ways we hope to keep in touch. And, of course, we shall be logging on to Skype and emailing whenever we get the chance. This is a massive adventure for us all with a shed load of planning , but once you've fallen for Africa you just have to see more. So here we go!

What have we learned so far? Thoughts from Chris at Marracuene Mozambique

The tents are waterproof having been subject to violent and torrential storms.

The 2 hours to erect the tent the first time was the exception. 5 minutes is now the norm.

It is great fun driving a 4x4 through sand....although Diana is not so sure.

The tent is very comfortable.

We have 2 great chefs

2M beer goes down a treat after a hard days driving

When a rhino approaches within 3 metres it gives a dead eye and we move off quickly (slowly)

A crocodile eats all parts of an antelope including legs and hooves.

It is chaos trying to board a Mozambique ferry, the locals jump the queue.
