Welcome to our Africa blog

We hope all our families and friends will log in from time to time to see how we're getting on - and just to touch base. We all know we shall miss everyone and this is one of the ways we hope to keep in touch. And, of course, we shall be logging on to Skype and emailing whenever we get the chance. This is a massive adventure for us all with a shed load of planning , but once you've fallen for Africa you just have to see more. So here we go!

Tanzania Campsites

Peponi, N of Pangani. Came for 3 days, stayed 10. Sorry to leave, says it all. Beautiful location, good facilities, friendly helpful people. Highly recommended.

Beach Crab S of Pangani. Another lovely location, good food in restaurant. Can swim in ocean.

Kinyonga, Saadani NP, overlooking Wami River. Superb location, facilities derelict at present but are being renovated. Hippo watching and listening at night superb.

Tan Swiss. S of Mikumu NP. A convenient stop ruined by geese waking us up at 3am. Good food.

River Valley, NR Iringa. Lovely green site. Good overnight stay.

Ruaha NP. Excellent campsite, between hippo pool and river, great feeling of wilderness. not shown on park map. Go to HQ for directions. Following park map and signposts leads to dank un appealing old site.

Cholega just outside Ruaha. Fine for overnight stop in or out of park

Kisolanza, excellent overnight stop with steak bought at shop as on way into Tanzania

Utengele Coffee Lodge, Nr Mbeya. Good stopping place on way to Zambia, with restaurant and pleasant surroundings we are using as a longer resting spot. Not fully geared up for camping, tents and vehicles use helipad, but good toilets and showers.
